Hi, welcome to the website! Today, I’m walking you through a procedure that every Jeep owner should know: Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT Grille Removal. This process is identical for both, so whether you’re driving a truck or a classic SUV, this guide is for you.
I’ve already removed the grille from my Gladiator to make this easier to visualize. Sometimes, seeing how something goes back together is the best way to understand how to take it apart.

Why You Need to Remove Your Jeep Grille
You might be asking yourself, "Why would I remove a perfectly good grille from a perfectly good Jeep?" Well, there are several practical reasons:
Maintenance: My Jeep is nearly four years old with 50,000 miles. I removed mine to inspect the radiator fins for obstructions or damage.
Electrical Upgrades: When I installed lights on my bumper, removing the grille made it significantly easier to run the wiring cleanly.
Customization: Many owners choose to swap their stock look for an aftermarket "Angry Eyes" or "Monster" style grille.
EXPOSED: The Backside of the Jeep Grille (Clips Revealed)
To master Jeep Wrangler JL Grille Removal, you have to understand what’s happening behind the plastic. If you look at the back of the grille, you’ll see eight metal-reinforced plastic clips along the bottom. On the top flange, there are six openings for the push pins that secure it to the upper radiator support.
Our goal is to maintain the integrity of these parts. We don't want to break any clips, so knowing exactly where they are located is half the battle.
UNDERSTANDING The Grille Attachment: Oval Slots in Frame
On the front of the Gladiator or Wrangler frame, you will see a series of oval slots. Each one of those eight clips I mentioned earlier snaps directly into these slots. When performing a Jeep Wrangler JL Grille Removal, you are essentially "popping" these clips out of these specific points. If you have a winch installed, it makes the clearance a bit tighter, but it is still very doable.
PROVEN Method: Reinstalling and Jeep Wrangler JL Grille Removal Tips
When you are ready to put the grille back on, line up the tabs with the metal clips directly over the oval slots. I usually give it a firm "whack" with the palm of my hand along the bottom edge. You’ll hear a satisfying snap as they lock into place. Once the bottom is secure, you can move to the top flange.
Push Pin Clip Installation: The Easy Way
The top of the grille is held in by six plastic push pins. To install them, you simply insert the body of the pin into the hole and then press the center button down. This expands the clip and locks the grille to the frame.

When you start your Jeep Wrangler JL Grille Removal, you have two ways to get these pins out:
Two Screwdrivers: You can use two flathead screwdrivers to gently pry up the center button until it pops up, then work the clip out.
Trim Removal Tool: This is my preferred method. I use a fork-shaped trim tool that slides right under the pin and pops it out effortlessly. It’s one of the handiest tools in my studio!

Now that you've seen the clips and the tools, here is the full procedure:
Remove the 6 Pins: Use your tool of choice to remove the top fasteners and set them aside where they won't fall into the engine bay.
The Bottom Pop: Reach down to the bottom corner of the grille and give it a firm, steady pull away from the Jeep. You will hear the clips snapping out of those oval slots.
Work the Sides: Continue across the bottom and up the sides until the grille is free.
It’s a piece of cake once you know where the attachment points are!
