We visited Ouray to take part in the annual Ouray Jeep Jamboree. Seriously, the town was like a 4x4 paradise! Everywhere you turned, there were Jeeps all lined up, just waiting to take on those gnarly high-alpine passes.

We decided to explore the downtown on foot. The whole place has this charming, preserved feel, with old houses, buildings and the kind of dramatic cliffs you’d expect to find in a natural amphitheater. There is no shortage of great places to eat either.
Walking Through a National Historic District
The whole downtown area is a National Historic District, and you can really feel the history around here. You’ll love the 19th-century vibes with awesome old buildings like the Elks Lodge and the stunning Beaumont Hotel, which dates all the way back to 1886. Strolling down Main Street is a treat, too—check out the antique ore cars turned into planters, a neat little shoutout to Ouray's mining history.
