Honestly, you can't beat this spot in the USA for some epic wheeling and camping in the sand! Our Jeep Gladiator Ecodiesel and the Xventure XV-3 totally crushed it out there. Plus, the summer vibes in Oregon just made the whole trip even better!

First Experience at Oregon Dunes - Learning the Ropes of Sand Camping
So, here's the scoop on campsites: they're nestled right in the sand, and you can easily reserve and pay for them online at Recreation.gov. We decided to snag a spot near the day-use parking lot at Horsefall Campground, which was super convenient. Just a heads up, though—some campsites are pretty remote and involve a bit of a drive through the dunes. But if you're all about escaping the hustle and bustle, this is definitely the spot for you!
Stuck Under A Tree While Finding A Campsite At Oregon Dunes Horsefall Campground
So, we were on the hunt for our campsite, right? We cruised up this steep hill, took a sharp turn, and boom—there’s this tree just hanging over the trail. The Jeep made it under without a hitch, but our Roof Top Tent? Not so much. Luckily, I got to break in my brand new American-made shovel! Perfect timing, right?
This Is Sand Camping At Oregon Dunes
We finally cleared the tree and made it to our campsite at Horsefall Campground. The sign says we can set up anywhere within a 150-foot radius, which is pretty cool! We had a great dinner, enjoyed a cozy campfire, and the next day, we’re all set to explore the Oregon Dunes. Can’t wait for the adventure!
Next Day: Exploring Oregon Dunes Horsefall Camp To Hauser Beach
So, we thought it’d be a good idea to park our trailer in the day use lot right in front of the camp host's trailer. Before we took off in the Jeep to explore the dunes, I went ahead and topped off the tank with some extra diesel I had. Gotta make sure we’re all set for the adventure ahead!
On To The Sand And Across The Oregon Dunes - Note: Close Your Windows When Climbing Dunes
Tires aired down to 15 PSI and Jeep in 4 high we headed out. We tried some dune climbing almost clearing a massive one. When we bogged near the top the front left tire kept spinning and loaded the Gladiator with sand through the open window.
Getting Bogged! We Almost Slid Off The Trail Down Into A Massive Tree Island
Large Tree Islands have steep and soft sandy sides. The trail took us close to one. At the last minute we cut hard left and avoided the disaster of falling in. We were bogged! The shovel, traction boards and locking axles got us out and we continued on to Hauser Beach.
